At least in World of Tanks something was true in game balance: each nation has a obvious strong point. The german cannons there are the best around. But in War Thunder? The germans have no obvious superiority against the soviets, while the soviets are much better in many things (at least in tier II and III, and for what I read, in tier V too).

Personally, I think comparing the 2 games is kinda stupid. WoT is completely an Arcade shooter, the hit point system and RNG aim/damage should be the indicator for that. War Thunder is a Realistic Arcade tactical shooter. They are different genres of a similar style.
The two are pretty easy kills for the 122mm gun - in fact, at IS-2 battle rating, there's barely anything able to survive such a gun. This comes of course at the cost of a 25 seconds reload. It's also a great tank to unlock if you want to keep playing the Soviet tree, as later tanks have similar characteristics to what you find on the IS-2.
The best tank: T-44-100. The front of the armor is pretty sloped, making it very likely that incoming shells might bounce off your armor into other friendly tanks, causing slight episodes of rage. Itâs important to upgrade this tank, as itâs gonna be an absolute beast in terms of forward/backward speed.
